CDM Interest Survey is administered. You will examine life and work values;
identify skills that you have used and learn how to describe them
effectively; look at interests and personality characteristics.
Coping With Job
Loss –
This workshop is designed to assist participants to cope with feelings that
are typically experienced after losing a job and during the job search.
Learn strategies for working through your feelings and keep a positive
attitude during your job search
Dialing for Jobs

Learn effective techniques to contact employers over the phone for jobs.
Workshop will include successful telephone scripts and tips when making cold
calls.
Dress for Job Interview Success

When you dress like a professional, you are likely to be treated as one, and
that’s a good head start to give yourself …. without saying a word. It is a
fair estimate that nine out of ten of today’s employers will reject an
unsuitably dressed applicant without a second thought.
Interviewing I -
You
will focus on the main event in job search-the interview. Also, includes
practical pointers on reducing nervousness, so you can put your best foot
forward at the interview.
Networking For Your Job Search

Workshop will provide proven techniques to find the hidden job market - the
unadvertised job openings.
Organizing Your Job Search
- Workshop
will assist you in conducting an effective job search using the ten steps
method. If it has been some time since you last had to look for work, this
workshop will provide you with straight forward job search strategies to
assist you in obtaining employment.
Resume & Cover Letters -
Participants will learn key concepts about resume writing including formats,
summaries and accomplishment statements. Also, we will discuss Cover
Letters, Thank-You, and Follow-up Letters.
Resume Critique -
Bring 7 copies of your "typed" resume to share with
other participants. Receive constructive criticism from workshop
facilitator and your peers to ensure that your resume illustrates the
strengths and skills needed in today's job market.
Salary Negotiations NEW
- The focus is on how to handle salary issues during the interview process.
Learn negotiating techniques as well as how to negotiate salary based on the
"Market Value" of a position.

Overview –
Understanding of various SBA programs and services that are available to
prospective or current entrepreneurs who need assistance in starting
or expanding their businesses

Point & Click-
An introduction to computers. For those who are in need of basic computer
skills. MS word, Internet Explorer
Internet Job Search-Basic/advanced
job search on the web and various methods of applying for jobs online.
Prerequisite: Must have knowledge of windows and use of
a mouse.
Introduction to Microsoft Word

Learn how to format a document in MS Word by using font, letter size, bold,
italicize, centering, spell check, cut, copy, paste, bullets and numbering.
Prerequisite: Must know how to use a mouse.
Intro to Excel
– Learn how to do spreadsheets. Prerequisite: Must
know how to use a mouse

College Access (The Education Resource Institute -
Counselor provides information on college and universities, financial aid
and careers. Advising on school selection, paying for educational costs and
assistance with completing admissions and financial aid applications.
Self-Directed Resource Room Services
CBT
(Computer Based Training)
-Teach yourself at your own pace in Windows 2000, MS Word, Excel, Access,
PowerPoint and Outlook available in Level 1, Level 2 or advanced level.
Reserve a 2 hour slot at front desk.
Mavis Beacon-Typing Tutor:
A self-paced tutorial program for those who need to learn basic keyboarding
skills or for those who want to increase their typing speed and accuracy.
Learn to type/use the keyboard.
MindLeaders® E-Learning Modules
An effective self-paced learning tool used to refresh or learn new skills.
The available modules are: Computer Applications, Business Development and
Job Search related. Each Module takes approximately two hours to complete.
Sign up at front desk. Prerequisite: Must know how
to use a mouse.
Support for Individuals with Disabilities:
Auxiliary aids or services are available upon request to individuals with
disabilities. The resource room houses adaptive equipment for customers.
